NaughtAtNull. Where did this name come from?
Once upon a time dyson existed as my online persona. That was the name of my first computer (celeron 400, 10gb WD drive, voodoo3 PCI running win98). Picking a name was the hardest part of building my first computer. Dyson comes from the movie terminator 2. There was something appealing about the character of Miles Dyson who would accidentally be responsible for judgment day. A simple character who was trying to just get by in life and found out that he would inadvertently be responsible for the downfall of humanity. I was hooked! An obscure reference to a movie that i loved and no one got it.
And so "dyson" was born.
About 2 years ago, i began to redefine who i was. Dyson was more immature and inexperienced. In essence, "dyson" had grown up and i wanted to reflect that in a new persona. This is when i stumbled upon the word "naught". Here was a word that isn't used very often and yet it has a certain feel to it. It also reflected how i felt at that given time (like i was nothing). So i slowly adopted it as an alternate persona.
Over time, dyson has been gradually phased out and naught has risen from the ashes. The mature and professional naught is becoming the more dominant persona in my online life. Currently i use dyson, dysmal, naught, null, and a couple variations of these to describe who i am.
This brings me to NaughtAtNull. Null is the name of my second machine (courtesy of yPerr). It's a Fedora box running on a p3 1ghz which has a habit if irritating the hell out of me. In a terminal window you typically see [username@localhost] which in my case is [naught@null]. Thus, i think this looks pretty friggin cool and it's got that flare that i like.
That's the story. Now you know the meaning of the name of this blog. The next step is to figure out what will be recorded here! :)
